A lot of us reallllyyy lack a self-care routine. I’m one of those people! I really don’t have much of a routine at all; plus I’ll put work and other people before myself almost every time. No one’s asking this of me. No one’s requiring it. Sometimes we gotta just slow down… but then I’ll find myself spending hours doomscrolling on social media and numbing myself…or drinking wine… or avoiding the problem 🙃but self-care isn’t just about finding a quick fix. It’s about nurturing your whole being and caring for your..self.
Here’s some healthy ways to get self care ✨🫶
💤 SLEEP: girl go to sleeeeeep. And I’m talking quality sleep. Try to go to sleep and wake up at the same-ish time every day. I think I’ve finally kinda fallen into my rhythm here. No one likes my schedule though 😂 that DND comes on at 7:30 pm and doesn’t turn off for 12 hours.🦕 A little people break: you don’t have to answer to everyone right away and you don’t need to always be available. Give your phone a break! I feel like we’re always on call 24/7 and I’ve stopppped that. I can’t answer every phone call or text because I’d get NOTHING done. This is a huge form of self care for me. If anyone needs you— they’ll call twice and break through the DND (make sure you set that up!) but on the flip side…
👯♀️ CONNECTION: If you’re feeling lonely, spend time with loved ones, join a support group, or volunteer at local places. I have a weird schedule so it’s hard for me to find time to hangout with anyone my age. I’m working when they’re not and vice versa.. so I’ve started volunteering and joined even joined a support group that I know I can go to if I ever needed to. Human connection is really so much more important than we realize.[Continued in comments
🤸♀️ ACTIVITY: we allll know this one… but it’s true. Moving your body is a great way to improve mood, reduce anxiety, and boost energy levels. I’m sitting on the couch as I write this and I really should go on a walk later because I KNOW that makes me feel so so much better. I’m not someone who LIKES working out. I like sports and have always loved being active but going to the gym or on a run is so boring to me, but I’ve found ways to make myself do it.Ex: only can watch/ listen to your fav tv show/podcast when working out; trick yourself into going to the gym by saying “I’m just going for the sauna” and then workout anyways
🌈 CREATIVE OUTLETS: there’s a reason we do crafts in the grippy socks palace. Painting, writing, learning a new instrument, making jewelry, creating cute collages, etc. there’s so many different creative activities you can do for very little money (or a lot of money if we’re going head first into this new hobby) so you can try it out and see if it works for you. There’s even tons of YouTube videos for beginning drawing, paintings literally whatever you can think of.
👠 GET DRESSED: Instead of staying in your comfy sweat pants, tshirt and no bra… maybe switch it up!? If that’s makeup, jewelry or a cute outfit for you- whatever you know makes you feel “better”. I know when I get ready for the day - even with nowhere to go - I often feel better and more confident. Not gonna lie; even putting shoes on helps!?
I know we KNOWWW most of these things but a reminder never hurts♥️ as I said, I’m literally laying on the couch rn (I’m working but I could def be working at my desk), because I’m not perfect at this either. I’m working on it. I’m wearing pjs, haven’t eaten anything, haven’t had enough water, didn’t sleep much, didn’t have any social interactions but I’m trying.
